We know it’s not going to be easy, but if you’re committed to making this positive change in your life and the lives of your children then we’re committed to doing everything in our power to make sure that you’re equipped to succeed.

What’s Required of You?

If you are to move into Alpha House you must be prepared to: 

• be committed to making a positive lasting change in your life

• participate in programs, meeting once a week with the women's counsellor for personal counselling, once a week with the children's counsellor, once a week with the compulsive coping behaviour counsellor and attending two support group sessions per week.

• care for and respect your suite

Impact on Children

If you have children living in your home they may be affected by the abuse you are experiencing.

“Children who are exposed to violence against their mothers—even infants and very young children—may be seriously affected. Exposure to violence against their mothers can undermine children’s emotional development, and cause serious behaviour problems and difficulties in school. The emotional and behavioural effects may be similar to those experienced by children who are themselves being physically abused. (Source: Public Health Agency of Canada)

You can make the decision to protect your children and yourself from the affects of violence. Your children do not have the power to make the change, you do.
